Why can’t my staffer Check In and Check Out when they are in the right place at a large site with geofencing? The answer may be local WIFI. A clue is in the error message (blue box below). But that does not explain the whole story when local WIFI is providing its own location data.
In this case, there is no signal problem. WIFI is good enough at one bar. So what has happened?

Some staff have a problem checking in and out at a large site. The usual solution is to get an accurate pin as described here. However, many staff use local site WIFI services. This is permitted by many clients. That brings an additional challenge. Geolocation is probably not set where the phone is. It is set where the line connects in from the internet supplier. In a small house, they points are probably close by. However, at a very large establishment they may not be. Examples include
- airports
- hospitals
- stately homes
- larger super and hyper markets
- some large utility sites
AXLR8 Support often have calls where a site location has been set wrong. For example, “Morrisons Leeds Road , Bolton” mistyped as “Bolton Road, Leeds” is an example. The guard could not check in as the site was miles from the correct location. Not really a systems problem!
Site Location Pin is accurate but WIFI interferes
However, when the address is perfectly set by the operations team and the “site pin” as been moved to the exact location of the door the guard (porter, demonstrator, etc.) is supposed to enter the site, the use of local WIFI will interfere. The entry point of the internet could be 500m or mor away from that entry door.
Please ask staff to either:
- Check in and out where the WIFI is situated (It has taken our clients a while to find this at many airports and places like Excel London). The Lat long can be taken at that point and added manually to the location page for the work site in your AXLR8 system.
- Switch off WIFI momentarily to check in or out. Some staff may not be able to use their WIFI units up and your company will need to address this matter. Others may also have less tech skills.
