Tracking the approach of a person or asset helps your customer estimate arrival time and optimise resources.
The customer sometimes gives you a short notice order for staff and needs to know when they will arrive. The reason for this is that your customer may need to reorder their work around the arrival of your staff. They may need to organise many other dependent resources. Examples are operating theatres in hospitals awaiting air conditioning engineers and courts awaiting interpreters. Ambulance and first aid crew arriving before a triathlon starts is another example that affected AXLR8 two years in a row. We had to know when they would arrive in order to rework our annual corporate event with hundreds of competitors, marshals and spectators. Security guards, stewards/marshals and many other staff must be in place before the start of concerts, matches and other events. If just one is missing and there is a problem, Murphy’s Law states the problem will occur right at the post where the covering person is absent!
Use Case: Tracking approach of Court Interpreters
Our customer asked us for a system that tracks his interpreters from when they start their journey to the court. The reason is that the judge at (for example) Slough Crown Court can bring forward another case from later in the schedule if the interpreter has only moved half a mile on the M4 in the last half an hour. Likewise, if they have not even got on the train at Paddington. If they are just walking from Slough Station and the pointer indicates they are 100 yards away, the case can start as scheduled. All parties required to hear the case can stay where they are.
The system uses geolocation on the interpreter’s phone and is updated every few minutes. It can be more or less frequent as required.
The client sees a map and can zoom in for more detail if they wish. The location of the tagret site the interpreter is approaching are recorded in the AXLR8 system.
It should be clarified that this AXLR8 client pays their interpreters travel hours and expenses. The linguists will have an opt out. Most feel the tracking permission is reasonable. The location data is only accessed by authorised managers. After its use for that purpose and proof of travel times and attendance it does not have to be kept any longer than necessary and will be deleted.
As mentioned, the interpreters will also work at other locations such as high level meetings, prisons, hospitals, etc. Many need to track site approach. Otherwise valuable resources may be sitting around doing nothing.
